Pitch to RWL Magazine
Rebel Women Lit (RWL) publishes discussions on contemporary literary culture, politics, interviews with writers, reviews of publications (creative and scholarly), listicles, hot takes, as well as short fiction and poetry by emerging and established Caribbean writers.
We invite pitches for:
discussion essays, listicles, hot takes, on contemporary literary culture (500-1,500 words)
discussion essays on contemporary political issues (700-1,500 words)
critical reviews of books, scholarly or creative works (1,000-1,500 words)
interviews with authors and/or literary scholars (2,000-2,500 words)
poems and short fiction (maximum 4,000 words) from emerging and established Caribbean and African writers
We publish one post per week and accept submissions on a rolling basis. We kindly ask that you do not write a piece before pitching it to our editors unless you are submitting a short story or poem for consideration in our Arts section. . Please review the style requirements below and adhere to the word limits for all submissions.
GENERAL REQUIREMENT
Permissions: Contributors are responsible for obtaining written permission to reprint and reproduce any material. Similarly, it is the responsibility of contributors to supply the source of all previously published material. Accepted writers will be compensated a small stipend of 20USD for each piece.
REVIEWS
Reviews should be preceded by information about the text in the following format:
Full name of the author, Title. City: press, year of publication
INTERVIEWS
Interviews must begin with a short paragraph that includes information about the interviewee, the date and the general purpose of the interview. The first question must be preceded by the full name of the interviewer and a colon, in bold. The first response should be preceded by the full name of the interviewee and a colon, in bold. Subsequent questions and responses should be preceded by initials and colons, in bold.
PITCHES
Pitches should be summarized in four to eight sentences. All pitches must include the subject of your writing or review, the main topics and/or themes to be critically explored.

Do I need to be a Caribbean Writer to pitch?
No, unless you’re pitching fiction or poetry, we don’t care.
We just want to see brilliant work.
What happens after I submit my application?
Tyesha, our awesome editor, will reach out to you in about 14 days to let you know what’s up, and if she has any questions. She’s a tough editor, so come with challenging and beautiful work.
What happens to my rights?
They’re yours to keep baby! Just two things: 1. If you republish elsewhere your stuff elsewhere just add a note that you first published the piece on rebelwomenlit.com, and 2. You grant us permission to republish your work in full or in parts at a later date on Rebel Women Lit’s platforms.
Can I pitch unfinished work?
Yes! Just let us know your projected timeline for completing your work.
Can I pitch my book for you to promote on your newsletter podcast or book club?
