RWL Book Club: Atlas of AI

  • The Community Centre Liguanea Kingston, St. Andrew Parish Jamaica (map)

It feels like AI is everywhere, and the world is rapidly heading towards an AI utopia… or dystopia?

As with all technological revolutions, there are dirty gears that even a fancy, polished sheeting can’t hide. Living in Jamaica, where our history is defined by the extraction of natural resources to fuel the ‘developed world,’ it feels necessary to witness the ways history repeats itself through AI and the narratives surrounding the story. Not seeing how the two are linked? Atlas of AI: Power, Politics, and the Planetary Costs of Artificial Intelligence by Kate Crawford urgently dissects the impact that AI is having on society, politics, and the environment. What is at stake as we reshape this world?

We’re meeting Sunday, September 21st, at The Community Centre in the Liguanea area (exact address to be sent once you RSVP). Bring your book, notepads, and dress cozy.
